Churchill and WWII

What was Churchill's ideology and how did it affect his and Great Britain's involvement in WWII. Specifically, how did Churchill direct the British people during this turbulent time?
Winston Churchill's ideology was one of a liberal mindset. He supported free trade and low tariffs. His superb writing skills assisted him greatly and made him an eloquent speaker. He was persuasive and warned Europe about Hitler's plans. He influenced many people with his speeches. His speeches were not only directed to Parliament, but reached a far greater audience. They were brilliantly delivered and are historic among all wartime speeches. Though he always came prepared with unyielding notes, he mainly spoke from memory. This provided him with the deep interaction with his audience and his ability to persuade. He felt that nations had to act quickly against Nazi Germany. A quote states that "Churchill threw himself tirelessly into all aspects of war policy and direction". We can assume that Churchill had a militaristic view. He directed the British people to nationalism and had Great Britain take action in World War II. He pushed America to take part in the war, while Britain and France were already in the combat and needed support. Britain and France were receiving threats of invasions from Germany and needed to add an extra ally.

WWI Question Response #2

Define and describe the powers fighting on the Eastern theatre. What were some similarities and differences between battles on the Western and Eastern fronts? Be specific in your answer.
The powers that were fighting in the Eastern theatre were "the ancient monarchies of Austria, Russia and Germany". There were many differences among the Eastern and the Western fronts. One being that the Western front received 'greater fame' than the Eastern front. This could have been due to the fact that three million men fighting for the Eastern front died and nine million men were wounded. Because of this war the Eastern powers were quite unstable and their governments collapsed. The year of 1915 was not a successful one for the Eastern theater. Two million soldiers from Russia perished and Germany and Austria-Hungary together lost about one million men that year as well. When the new government of Moscow took over, German prisoners-of-war were relocated to the Western front. For a moment in the war it seemed like a stalemate due to the similar tactics from the two fronts. However, the Western Front mustered their strength and managed to defeat the Eastern front.

WWI Question Response

What were the causes, both regional as well as political for beginning of The Great War? Explain your answer using factual evidence from the text.
The Great War was very much a chain reaction of events that led to a global conflict. A main cause would include the fact that many great powers of Europe were forming alliances with one another for protection and support. "These alliances were intended to promote peace by creating powerful combinations that no one would dare attack"(Elser, 454). Through these treaties, two major sides formed. One included of Austria-Hungary and Germany; the Central Powers, as they were to be called. The other alliance was France, Britain, and Russia, they were known as the Allies. In the years to come, other countries chose a side and became a part of the war. Competition was a large factor of the formation of the war. Countries began to prepare their armies and navies and were on their toes for any attack that would be brought upon them by another country. Another factor of rising tension would be nationalism. Nationalism held great strength in countries such as Germany and France. Germans were prideful in their defenses while France was revengeful and wanted to regain their border province. Russians were united in nationalism as well. The assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand was almost like an excuse for war. Once the archduke and his wife were killed in Sarajevo, Austria declared war on Serbia. Due to the previous treaties made, many countries were linked to this war and were forcefully dragged in. The many ties and links created made the two super alliances go head to head in epic proportions.

Movie Comparison Assignment

The movie I would most relate myself to would have to be Lilo and Stitch. This movie came out in 2002, when I was about three or four years old. I was obsessed with this film and later based my interests off of those that Lilo had. Because of this film I became very interested in Elvis' music. I later found myself in situations similar to Lilo's. When I entered kindergarten I always felt like the outcast. I did not have many friends especially those of which were girls. This situation went on for a few more years. Just like Lilo, I was often alone in my classes. Lilo's situation at home was a traumatic one. I did not share this trait, but both my parents worked long hours and I hardly saw them. However, I had five strange creatures in my house that made me not feel so alone. Those aliens being my four brothers and my sister.
This is a picture of me probably in 2002 or 2003 at my Lilo and Stitch overload birthday party.
